Carotid Ultrasound

​Carotid ultrasound is an imaging technique which visualizes the neck blood vessels that supply blood to the brain. The following are indicated for ultraound:
 
● Cervical bruit (high velocity sound in the neck) in an asymptomatic patient
● Follow-up of known stenosis (50%) in asymptomatic individuals
● Patient with multiple risk factors for atherosclerosis
● Stroke risk assessment in a patient with CAD or PVD
● Visual disturbances suggestive of stroke
● Stroke in a candidate for carotid revascularization
● Follow-up after a carotid stenting or surgical procedure (such as CEA)
